All of your sessions take place on Zoom, which allows you to do 1-1 live video therapy. You’ll need to download Zoom onto your device before your first session.
Right before your scheduled appointment time, your therapist will send you a private message with the Zoom link to your first session. You will find this message inside the NOCD app. Download the free app now to check it out!
All sessions are conducted on a Zoom video conference, which requires you to download Zoom. On your session day, click on the Zoom link sent by your therapist in the NOCD app so you can meet with your therapist. Your therapist will send the link right before your appointment - and remember, it’s an online video session, so they will not call you on the phone.
Your therapist will ask a series of questions regarding your intrusive thoughts. You'll also have a chance to talk about what's bothering you and how your life is affected. You'll leave the session with a treatment plan that works best for you.
You won’t need to prepare pre-written answers or take notes during the session, but you will need to make sure you have two programs before meeting your therapist. The first is Zoom, which allows you to participate in your live 1-1 video session. You can download Zoom here. You’ll also need to download our NOCD app on your mobile device, which is where you will find important messages from your therapist, including the link you’ll need to access your first session. Download the NOCD app here.
Your therapist has sent you a message in the NOCD app that includes a link to their provider profile. This chat feature is also a great way to get to know your therapist or even ask questions before your first session. To see the message and profile, go straight to the app. If you haven’t downloaded the app, do it now by clicking here: Nocd App Download
You’ll want to share everything for ERP therapy to have the best chance of helping you overcome OCD. If you’re concerned that your thoughts are too embarrassing or that your OCD thoughts will be misinterpreted as something you may act on, know that your therapist understands OCD thoughts and won’t judge you, and nothing will shock them.
According to research, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy is the only effective therapy in addressing every type of OCD. All of our NOCD therapists are led by top OCD experts, psychologists, and researchers that train them in ERP therapy.
You may have worked with a therapist in the past and didn't see the results you wanted. Most likely, they weren't able to get to the root of the OCD because they didn't use ERP.
Yes, your therapist will be able to treat your OCD subtype because they practice ERP. Our therapists regularly treat people with thoughts that are sexual, violent, taboo, and aggressive. ERP that is led by a licensed, trained professional work for every subtype of OCD regardless of its severity. Once your therapist determines which OCD subtypes you’re experiencing, they’ll create a plan to address your specific needs.
All of our therapists create a judgment-free space for you to participate in, so we ask that you allow your therapist to get to know you better. If you feel that the therapist you were matched with isn’t the one for you after completing your first session, call us right away at 312-766-6780, and we will arrange a new session with a different therapist.
Your therapist will ask you a series of questions regarding your intrusive thoughts. But be aware that this question could indicate that your OCD is acting up in an attempt to look for reassurance. When you speak with your therapist for the first time, please ask this question for a more detailed explanation.
It’s common to be anxious or scared to meet your therapist. Our advice is to tell your therapist how nervous you are and why. Remember, opening up about how you feel is part of the process and an important step towards overcoming your OCD. Here are some tips:
Tip #1
If you’re nervous about sharing thoughts that bring shame or embarrassment, know that your therapist won’t judge you or be shocked by what you say. Our team of therapists often work with thoughts that are violent, taboo, aggressive, or sexual.
Tip #2
The first day of any therapy can be nerve-wracking, so feel free to chat with your therapist in the NOCD app before you start. They’ve already sent you a message, which means you can respond with questions and concerns or just say hello.
Tip #3
Some people have never participated in a video chat before, which can bring on some anxiety. To address it, try out Zoom with a friend before your session.
